In the neighbouring Aegean Sea, the coastal cargo boat was always a name for the sailboat with two masts, no matter what the type of the hull was. The coastal cargo boat, as a very firm and mobile boat, was particularly suitable for the trade and communication between numerous islands in the Adriatic Sea, as well as between their neighbouring coasts. As the time passed, coastal cargo boats lost their significance, especially after the introducing of the motor-driven running. Many coastal cargo boats were converted into working boats for extraction and transportation of the sand. And now, in modern times, those are converted into cruise ships. Nowadays, there are only two somewhat authentic tourist coastal cargo boats with two masts cruising in the Adriatic Sea, one of them is m/v Roditelj, and there are no coastal cargo boats with a single mast in their original form anymore. |

m/v Roditelj was built a long time ago, in 1907, in a place called Piran at the remotest cape in Istra. It is 42 feet long, over 15 feet wide, with an over 5-feet tall mast. The boat was created without any mechanical processing as a handiwork of old craftsmen. It was built out of the high quality oak-wood. |
Since it is a coastal cargo boat, its bow and stern are characteristically wide and round. Even then it was significant for its remarkable abilities for that type of a boat, especially with larger loads. The bottom of the sailboat shows its pale-red gauge, the upper part of the boat is white, while the lower part is brown. The bow ends with a long bowsprit… Masts, the deck, the winch, the boat lights and many more commissioned details give m/v Roditelj its personality which dominates even at first sight. Its original purpose was for transportations, and it mostly served for sand transportations. In the middle of the 20th century it got the motor engine and with that it became the first motorized sailboat with the speed of 8 knots and the power of 200 H.P. With the later changing of its original purpose, all other infrastructures needed for the tourist sailboat with the capacity of 5o travellers were installed. It is suitable for panoramic rides, picnics and all kinds of presentations. Since the sailboat is under the preventive protection until a solution to the establishment of the cultural heritage is reached, no modifications of it are allowed. |
